Two months after an impressive beta, Mozilla’s finalized its first full mobile browser for Maemo — beating iPhone, Android  and most assuredly Windows Mobile versions to the punch. Though it doesn’t seem to have gained any new features in the interim, what it does bring to the table is sweet indeed: portrait browsing, auto-updating add-ons and the ability to magically convert webpages to PDF right on your phone. It looks like iTunes 9.2 has just hit the Software Update screens of computers across the land, and if you’ve got an iPhone 4 on order, this is one you’ll want to get around to installing in the next few days — it’s the only way you’ll be able to sync (actually, you’ll want it if you’re using iOS 4 on any manner of iPhone). Major features include iBooks support on the iPhone and iPod touch, PDF syncing through iBooks, home screen folder organization, and “faster backups” with iOS 4-equipped devices — a promising sign for anyone troubled by long sync times. iTunes 9.2 comes with several new features and improvements, including:

• Sync with iPhone 4 to enjoy your favorite music, movies, TV shows, books and more on-the-go

• Sync and read books with iPhone or iPod touch with iOS 4 and iBooks 1.1

• Organize and sync PDF documents as books. Read PDFs with iBooks 1.1 on iPad and any iPhone or iPod touch with iOS 4

• Organize your apps on your iOS 4 home screens into folders using iTunes

• Faster back-ups while syncing an iPhone or iPod touch with iOS 4

• Album artwork improvements make artwork appear more quickly when exploring your library

Intel-WebM

Hey Google, shall we try the other box? Maybe it has hardware acceleration built in for your new WebM video format? Intel’s Wilfred Martis has told IDG News that his company is keeping a close eye on Google’s new VP8-based format, and should it prove popular enough, hardware acceleration for it will be built into the CE4100  and other Atom chips headed to TVs and overpowered cable boxes in the future:

Just like we did with other codecs like MPEG2, H.264 & VC1, if VP8 establishes itself in the Smart TV space, we will add it to our [hardware] decoders.

Not exactly astonishing news, as Google TV is still likely to proceed on those chips with WebM getting decoded by software in the mean time, but at least Intel’s absenteeism from the WebM hardware partner list can now be explained as simple precaution, rather than some deeper division between the companies.
