parkes radio telescope
parkes-radio-telescope_john-sarkissianThe world’s largest array of radio telescopes are joining together for 24 hours in order to observe some quasars.
In the next 24 hours, 35 telescopes on all seven continents will be linked to listen to 243 specific quasars. The point is to establish a baseline for further observations, since the quasars are stationary in the night sky, and provide a good basis for mapping.

microsoft xbox 360 elite
All hail the Sky Player for Xbox. As well as being a video-on-demand system online, Sky Player has been streaming live channels for over a year to PC users, and Sky Player for Xbox tries to replicate that experience on a games console.
It’s a nice idea – and it effortlessly makes the best possible use of the Xbox 360’s luscious new interface to create a service that’s lots of fun to use.
It’s expensive to non-Sky subscribers though and certainly a niche product in the mass market, but for Sky converts it’s essentially a VoD solution for the home (or a second home) that beats Sky Anytime hands-down.

PCF233-radeon
Have you read our coverage of AMD’s new Radeon HD 5870 graphics card? If you have you’ll already be marvelling at the sheer, giddy silliness of the frame rates it’s capable of, not to mention basking in the glory of nearly three teraflops of raw processing power.
It’s simply the sexiest slice of silicon since a sliver of Megatron’s mainboard accidentally slipped down Megan Fox’s frilly bits. Of course, the 5870 is also the very first graphics card to support DirectX 11.
For the uninitiated, that’s the latest in a long line of multimedia APIs from Microsoft and apparently it’s going to rock more than just your PC gaming world. At least that’s what both AMD and Microsoft would have you believe.

dell xps adamo
That’s right, the world’s thinnest notebook that Xavier checked out on video the other day is now available through Dell for $1,799. Though it’ll take some time to ship; I just tried adding one to the cart and the preliminary ship date is listed as 12/24/09, which is more than a month from now. Maybe they are really building these things as you order them… who knows. You can’t customize any of the hardware of the Adamo, but I would say this is understandable considering that they probably have to custom work many of the pieces to get it to fit inside this iPhone thin laptop. Full specs below the image and a shot showing the incredibly thin Adamo after the specs.
